Saying Goodbye to UMK and Hello to the oldest University in Malaysia

The decision to transition from my initial role as an academic at UMK to the esteemed corridors of the oldest University in Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur marks a poignant juncture in my academic voyage. One opportunity that came with the change into embracing motherhood.

Having dedicated time to nurturing the minds of budding architects for 5 years, particularly during the pivotal semesters of 5 and 6 following my return from the enriching pursuit of a doctoral degree in late 2018, embarking on this new chapter stirs a whirlwind of emotions within me. The blend of excitement at the prospect of fresh beginnings and the palpable nerves that accompany stepping into uncharted territory creates a mix of trepidation and anticipation that is both daunting and invigorating.

The rigorous journey through the interview process served as a crucible, challenging me to reflect deep into the recesses of my accomplishments and aspirations. To also be full of gratitude for lessons learnt in my journey of 20 years since graduating as architectural graduate. Each question posed was a mirror reflecting not only my professional achievements but also my personal growth, pace and priorities. It was a moment of profound self-realization, a juncture where I stood at the crossroads of past achievements and future possibilities, acutely aware of the vast expanse of potential that lay shimmering on the horizon.

As I bid farewell to my esteemed colleagues at UMK, a profound sense of ending of an era was marked within me. Their genuine support, peer guidance, and camaraderie have been the bedrock of my academic journey returning to Malaysia. The lessons imparted, the challenges overcome in rural life , and the memories shared have left an indelible mark on my professional ethos, shaping me indefinitely.

Stepping into the embrace of my new colleagues at Universiti Malaya, I am filled with eager anticipation and also deeply humbled. The prospect of collaborative endeavors, the exchange of diverse ideas, and the collective pursuit of excellence ignite a spark of creativity within me. I look forward to delving into unexplored realms, challenging the boundaries of conventional wisdom in future generations, and fostering a culture of innovation in our field that transcends the ordinary.
